When we throw one, it tends to be… specific. A strong theme gives people something to lean into, and as a bonus, the photos usually take on a life of their own (see above).

Our most recent soirée was especially meaningful because we were celebrating the launch of a cookbook my team and I have been quietly, earnestly, and enthusiastically working on for quite some time:

Sauced. 30 Totally Bitchin’ Bowls.

Between dialing in recipes, cooking them, styling them, photographing and editing them (and eating them, repeatedly), the process became what most creative projects do. Equal parts love, equal parts labor.

There’s a moment when you finally take something across the finish line and realize you should probably stop and celebrate (I’m saying this as much to myself as to anyone reading).

So we celebrated Sauced. with a Big Lebowski–themed launch at our favorite bowling spot in Mira Mesa, California. The book is about bowls. Bowling felt appropriate. And if life offers you an opportunity to wear a Viking helmet in public, it seems wise to accept.

In any case, the theme was born, the vibes were high and the cookbook launched.

Over the next few weeks, we’ll be sharing recipes and ideas from Sauced here. If you make one, snap a photo. We’d genuinely love to see it.

And if you love Bitchin’ Sauce and enjoy the idea of 30 bowls that work for real life and real people, you can order a copy here.

In the meantime, make good food, love good people, and keep chasing the things that matter to you. Even if they’re a little Viking-adjacent.
